Throughout the year, we host fantastic family-focused seasonal events! Be sure to keep updated and don’t miss out on the excitement.
Easter Fun – Join us for an ‘egg-ceptional’ 2017 Easter:
Wild Things! Discovery Camp: New for 2017 is the Wild Things Discovery Camp – a four-day woodland activity camp for boys and girls aged 8-12 years. The camp will be jam-packed with exciting activities such as den building, rope skills, fire-making, craft with nature, pond dipping, bug hunts and much more! The camp runs 10th-13th April from 10am-2pm. Online booking in advance is required. €90 per child with a second sibling rate of €80. Four-day commitment required to maximise child’s personal development.
Easter Family Trail: The annual Easter trail at Castlecomer Discovery Park has become a family tradition for many. This fun event will be returning this year using Aesop’s Fables ‘The Tortoise and the Hare’ fairytale as our theme. Families (€10 per family, max. 4 children) will search to find clues on 14 hand-crafted Easter bunnies hidden throughout our 80 acre woodland. On completion of the trail families will receive an Easter treat. Family Trail available daily from the 8th April to the 23rd April until 4pm. No pre-booking needed but you can purchase the trail online.
Of course, Ireland’s longest over-water zipline will be open along with the Octagon High Ropes Course, Tree-Top Adventure Walk, Junior Woodland Adventure Course and Boating. Activities will open daily (weather-permitting) 8th-23rd April from 12pm-3pm. Online pre-booking required.
Halloween Trail – Our spook-tacular Halloween Trail takes visitors on a mystery woodland hunt. What will you find?!
Magical Christmas Experience – visit Mrs. Claus, the magical Elf & Fairy Village and Santa Claus himself in December for a festive family fun day out! See: www.discoveryparkchristmas.ie
We take part in National Heritage Week every August. Our most popular event is the annual guided tour of the Deerpark Colliery by ex-miner Seamus Walsh. The event begins Tuesday 23rd August at 10.30am in the Visitor Centre followed by a drive out to Deerpark itself.
In January, the park hosts one of the Operation Transformation Walks. Organsied by Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership (KRSP), hundreds may turn out to get active, fit and healthy!
