School Groups
Our 'Footprints in Coal' exhibition is a great experience for children and students of all ages and an ideal location for a school tour or an educational visit. Primary Schools
For Primary schools, we offer a Primary School Science Day based around the 'Footprints in Coal' exhibition and incorporating activities which explore the plants and animals of the surrounding parkland. All activities are curriculum linked and we are accredited under the Discover Primary Science Programme. For further details see Primary Schools
Secondary Schools
For Secondary Schools, a visit to our exhibition is an educational experience for all and covers topics related to the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert Geography curricula such as plate tectonics; the tectonic cycle and Ireland's changing position over geological time; rock types; the rock cycle and coal mining. A tour may also be of benefit to Biology students as it looks at the evolution of early amphibians and some of the first land plants. History students can learn about the history of mining in the area and also the social history of the time. For further details see Secondary Schools
