Opened in July 2007 the Visitor Centre at Castlecomer Discovery Park stands on the site of a former grass dryer building which was located in The Estate Yard. The centre is a unique and visually pleasing structure which blends perfectly with the traditional stone buildings of The Estate Yard and uses a range of energy saving and eco-friendly features including geo-thermal heating and solar energy.
Inside you will find the Jarrow Café, the reception area, ‘Footprints in Coal’ interactive multi-media experience, gift shop and gallery space, graphic displays and images from past and present and public toilets. The centre is an ideal place to visit when touring Kilkenny and Carlow and is fully wheelchair accessible.
As well as housing the ‘Footprints in Coal’ experience, the Visitor Centre is also the meeting point for all Park activities. Friendly staff will answer questions, provide assistance, and give directions on things to do at the park, visitor centre and places to visit in Kilkenny, Carlow and the surrounding area.
