Woodland Walks
The woodlands of Castlecomer Discovery Park contain three main walking routes which are colour coded and signposted. Ladies Walk (yellow) is the shortest of the walks at about 1.5 km in length. It follows a path around the Lower Angling Lake and would have been an ideal walk for the ladies of the Prior Wandesforde estate to take their daily exercise.
Captain's Walk (red) is about 2.5 km in length and is named after a former owner of the estate, Captain R.H. Prior Wandesforde who inherited it in the late 1800s. 'The Captain' was an important figure in the history of Castlecomer town and the associated mining industry.
Arboretum Walk (green) is about 2km in length and follows a route through the old Prior Wandesforde family arboretum, where a tree was planted to commemorate the birth of each child.
