Celebrate Easter with us 24th March to 8th April 2018
Time to celebrate! The gorgeous snowdrops are peeking up and the evenings are getting nice and long. Castlecomer Discovery Park is open for the 2018 season each weekend from the 17th March, but we have two full weeks of active fun from the 24th March to the 8th of April to celebrate the arrival of Spring and Easter holidays!
The ever popular Easter Woodland Hunt is back again, our Easter themed woodland trail takes families around our 80 acres of woodlands and lakes, bringing you through the magical elf and fairy village as you hunt for clues. Suitable for children up to 10, this is the perfect way to get a day of fresh air and screen free fun. Of course there is a reward for all your hard detective work, once you have gathered all the clues make your way back to the visitor centre to collect your goodies. The trail is available every day for the Easter holidays and is €10 per family.
Join us on Saturday March 31st for Cáisc sa choill as we celebrate craft and the natural world in our quirky event domes located at the Elf and Fairy Village. We have wood turners, knitters and felters amongst those that will give demonstrations of their crafts. They will be joined by a number of groups that promote biodiversity and embrace the natural world such as the Mid Kilkenny Bee Keepers Association. Did you know that eating honey can help you smarter! Find out this and much more by join us for this free family friendly event, taking place between 12.00 – 16.00 on Easter Saturday.
For those looking for an adrenaline rush, get up in the clouds and get a birds eye view of the world with our Tree Top Walk course nestled in the Sycamore tree tops! This stunning tree top walk is 140 metre long and gives views around the 70 acre natural woodland park. For those over 12 years of age there is Ireland’s longest zip line, which is 300 metres long and over 35 metres over ground at its highest point. Zoom down the zip after trying your skills on our high-ropes course called the Octagon. Our younger climbers love the Junior Woodland Adventure Course, which see children navigate a number of obstacles that promote physical and mental agility.
We have got something for everyone, with 6km of walking trails, woodland orienteering trails, pedal boats, canoes, archery, climbing wall or our fascinating interactive coal mining exhibition telling the story of the local mining heritage. You can also relax over a hearty meal or tasty snack at our “Canopy Café” under the trees at the elf village. Then take a walk around the craft yard, where you can meet the craft makers and find a novel gift.
